Cheese platters are perhaps the easiest crowd pleaser to put together. We decided on 6 cheese varieties, but for smaller gatherings you can limit yourself to 3. Generally you want to choose a hard, semi-soft, and spreadable soft cheeses. We chose Cheddar, Jalapeño-Monterey Jack, Smoked Gouda, Manchengo, Goat Cheese and Brie (not pictured).
While there are a variety of flavored crackers out there we want to keep it simple with club crackers whose flavor would not overtake that of the cheese. While labeling isn’t necessary I find people are bit more timid when they are unsure of what something is.
We also put out walnuts and raspberry jam as accompaniments. You can also add fruit such as grapes or apple slices. If you would like to include meats hard salami, pepperoni, and prosciutto are always popular choices.
